Through His eyes

I’ve just finished my Bible study for the day. These past two days the study has been about laying aside our judgment of others. I struggle with this sometimes, because I love to be right and if I lay aside my judgment it means I’m laying down the desire to PROVE that I’m right. Most of all, it means I’m laying down my pride, the pride that tends to ignore all of the broken parts of myself, all of the repair work that God has had to do on my life, all of the forgiveness and mercy I’ve been granted. I lay down my pride and I look in the eyes of another person and see myself. More than that, I see the potential for God to move in their lives in the way he’s moved in mine.

The past few days this song has been echoing in my head and it seems appropriate. If I’m to lay aside my judgment I need to see people the way God sees them. And so my prayer echoes the words of Brandon Heath’s song “Give Me Your Eyes”:

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
Ones that are far beyond my reach.
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see

  1. I wish the video worked. I am going to try and find it on youtube. After reading what you wrote I would like to hear this song and allow it to minister to me – don’t we all have areas in our lives where pride needs to be put to death and left at His feet?

  2. Thanks for the heads up…the picture was there so I never even double checked that it actually worked. I’ve fixed it to a different video of the same song and it should work now!

  3. Great song! I have never heard it before! Thanks for sharing it! Have a blessed weekend!

  4. Great message in song! God bless.

  5. What a great song. And, your post really inspired me. I think we all need to be reminded sometimes to be aware of how we see others.

  6. I love this song. How awesome that would be to see people for just one second the way that our Heavenly Father sees them. Great song! That is my prayer, give me your eyes, ears and arms Lord. That I might minister to someone today.

  7. This is just great!!

I hope you had a great weekend!!

  8. I put this song on my iPod a couple of months ago, and I had to listen to it a few times to really “get” it. It is a message I need to hear everyday. Too often I sit in judgment of others rather than seeing them as God does. Thank you for the reminder.
